Mercedes-Benz Malaysia To Push Newly Launched Truck

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd aims to sell between 150 and 200 units of its newly launched heavy-duty truck next year, its vice-president of commercial vehicles, Rainer Schaefer, said Tuesday.

The company had started delivering the new Mercedes-Benz Actros Third Generation since last month, he told reporters after the launch here today.

Schaefer said the first generation Mercedes-Benz Actros was introduced in 1996 and the second generation model in 2002.

The Actros family is acknowledged to be the world's best-selling heavy-duty truck, with about 600,000 units sold in more than 100 countries, he said.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia expects to sell about 150 units of heavy-duty trucks this year with the second and third generation Mercedes-Benz Actros.

"Our target is to sell 150 units this year but we are trying to do more than that. The problem is that it is very difficult for our customers to obtain financing," Schaefer said.

Last year, the company sold over 200 units of the second generation Mercedes-Benz Actros, he said.

Currently, he added, the company was holding an average of 30 per cent market share of the heavy-duty truck segment in Malaysia.
